I met a new friend in my Shakespeare class a few days ago, and she talked about bringing her pet tarantula to school. Since we both love tarantulas, I thought it might be an awesome idea. However, she’d probably have to get the principal’s permission. I also thought that she could put a stretchy/cloth cover over the carry cage to prevent the tarantula from getting stressed (and arachnophobics from having a scene!). Since it doesn’t need constant attention and food/water like some pets, it would be content inside the plastic carry-cage until it gets home. What do you think? Any suggestions?

I really love the little guys. The red efts (the first stage) crawl around our backyards everywhere, and they are adorable and, from what I have read, easy to maintain pets.
I would like to have two of them, so they wouldn’t get lonely, and they would both have to be male or both have to be female, so they wouldn’t breed. I have a ten-gallon tank in my garage that my brother used for fish a long time ago: I would be willing to clean it and set up a spot in the garage, where it’s cool enough for them, to put the tank. I’m guessing they’re around 15 dollars each, maybe less, and I have the money for it plus extra for gravel and food. I can pick moss and things in my backyard, since I know this is an environment they live in, and I’d be willing to set up and clean the tank.
The things is, my Mom is vegan and so am I, and she is wary about getting the insects for them to eat, but I’m fine with it.
I’ve researched it a lot: I know they are finicky eaters in the first stage, and I would be patient with it and get them the food they need, and I know they turn aquatic and I would change the tank for them (they only need a 10-gallon tank for less than three, so it would be fine).
Any suggestions on how to convince her? She also thinks they are cute.
P.S. Would it be okay to take two of my from my backyard and domesticate them, or should I buy them?

The cats have both successfully caught and killed mice they found in the basement. Needless to say, there are no more mice in the basement. Would the cats think the hamster is a mouse and try to get at it and kill it, causing heartbreak for my 7 yr. old?

Right now I have a smallish pet store bought cage, and when I get my new guinea pigs I would liek to make them an extension so they have more room. Not a C&C cage though, because we can’t get the coroplast but a variation. We can find the grids though! So any ideas?

Thanks and any more help would be appreciated!

I MAY have the opportunity to get a new pet(s) and was wondering, out of people’s personal experiences, which is better? I guess the Pygmy cham’s would be kind of cheaper, but I have read that clown fish are excellent fish.
***Edit*** Pygmy cham’s do not need big tanks a pair can live in a ten gallon, they only grow to 3inches, preety much at the most. They also do not need UVB and heat bulbs, as they live on the cool rainforest floor, where only 2% of sunlight reaches. (:

We have a 6 year old African Grey that is a part of the family. He likes to be on top of his cage and always in the same room as us. Sometimes he flies down to the ground. Yesterday, we adapted a 5 month Vizsla puppy. She is very hyper and freaked out when she saw the bird. I don’t want to keep the bird in a cage all the time but I’m concerned about his safety. Is is possible to train the dog to not be aggressive towards the bird? Does anyone have birds and dogs cohabitating in the same house?
